BRITNEY's Mane Man Tells All!

You'll be seeing much more of Britney Spears all through the summer during her Onyx Hotel World Tour. While the set changes colors, Britney will change costumes, from dominatrix to military to lingerie. To get the low-down on another ever-changing element of her look, her hair, we caught up with Laurentius Purnama, a stylist who's been working with Brit for the past year. When he's not jetting around caring for the singer's tresses, he does freelance editorial work.

According to Purnama, who modestly notes that he's not Britney's sole stylist, the star has fine, wavy hair that falls to the shoulders. But most of the time, she augments her strands with extensions. "Sometimes I use extensions that are attached with a protein bond -- it feels like real hair when you run your fingers through it and it is more comfortable than the sewn-in kind," he says, adding that they can stay in for up to five months. To brighten up her natural dirty blonde color, the extensions have highlights and lowlights.

Purnama created the look shown here for Britney's appearance at the American Music Awards and confides that they were clip-on extensions. To style them, he blew hair out with volumizer and relaxing serum from Phytologie, mixed with some Silk Nectar Serum from Ecru. "I like to use a large round brush so hair doesn't lie flat to her head," he says. Hair was flat-ironed next for super-smoothness. "Her natural hair is layered in front to blend in with the layered extensions. I completed the look with Aveda Brilliance shine spray." After all, this golden diva deserves a brilliant finish!
